Hot & Cold Thermal Therapy Breast Packs
Bosom Ritual Thermal Therapy Breast Care Compress
SOOTHE · SUPPORT · COMFORT
Take the pain out of breastfeeding and pumping with targeted relief from engorgement, blocked ducts, mastitis and the early days when milk first comes in. This is the thermal therapy your bosoms have been longing for.
Cool therapy helps to soothe inflammation and tenderness, while warmth encourages circulation and supports milk flow.
Our Hot & Cold Breast Pack is a versatile, medical-grade thermal compress designed to support breast and lactation wellness at every stage. Cool therapy helps to soothe inflammation and tenderness, while warmth encourages circulation and supports milk flow.
Designed with form and function, the adaptive shape follows the natural contour of the bosom, delivering pliable comfort to the upper and outer quadrants—areas most prone to engorgement, mastitis, blocked ducts and discomfort. Beyond lactation, thermal therapy offers soothing relief for breast discomfort associated with hormonal changes, menstruation, puberty, and post-surgical recovery, including breast augmentation.
The large 6cm sized central opening protects sensitive nipple tissue and allows the compress to sit seamlessly around all standard breast pump flanges. This considered design makes it a supportive companion throughout breastfeeding and pumping, enhancing both comfort and relief.
Each set includes two medical-grade gel packs and ultra-soft protective covers, made from certified GOTS and OEKO-TEX® organic bamboo, providing a breathable, antimicrobial, and moisture-wicking barrier between your skin and the compress. Designed with non-toxic gel and a soft-coated PVC outer layer, the compress is free from BPA, BPS, phthalates, and latex—prioritising safety for both mother and baby.
Mammae delivers effective relief, meeting trusted global standards to support you through every stage of motherhood. Our Thermal Therapy Compress is CE marked for compliance with European safety regulations, FDA registered, and listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).
Who It's Designed For
Breastfeeding places unique demands on the breasts, often requiring different forms of support at different moments.
The Bosom Ritual Thermal Therapy Packs were created for mothers navigating breast fullness, engorgement, inflammatory breast symptoms, tenderness and discomfort, while also supporting those preparing for feeding, pumping and breast massage.
Designed for both warm and cold therapy, they help mothers incorporate evidence-informed breast care into their daily routine. Cooling therapy provides targeted comfort during periods of inflammation and swelling, while gentle warmth may be used before feeding or expressing to support circulation, comfort and milk flow.
Many mothers continue reaching for their Thermal Therapy Packs long after breastfeeding challenges have passed, keeping them close for everyday bumps, knocks and minor mishaps as little ones become increasingly active and adventurous.
From the earliest postpartum days through to established breastfeeding and beyond, these packs adapt to the changing needs of motherhood.
What's Inside
The complete Bosom Ritual Thermal Therapy system, thoughtfully designed to support breast comfort, feeding and pumping.
Each set includes:
• 2 × Thermal Therapy Gel Packs
• 2 × OEKO-TEX® certified bamboo-cotton covers
Designed for both warm and cold therapy to support breastfeeding, expressing and everyday breast care.
Why is this different
Most thermal breast packs are designed as generic circular compresses with little consideration for the unique anatomy of the lactating breast.
The Bosom Ritual Thermal Therapy Packs were developed from a different perspective.
Their unique teardrop design intentionally extends into the upper and outer quadrants of the breast, helping mothers reach areas commonly affected by breast fullness, inflammatory breast symptoms and milk stasis, while reducing unnecessary bulk beneath the breast for a more comfortable fit inside a nursing bra.
Unlike traditional round designs, the packs feature an oversized central keyhole opening that comfortably surrounds the nipple and areola. This allows mothers to apply targeted thermal therapy to the breast tissue itself without placing direct heat or cold against sensitive nipple tissue, while also accommodating most standard breast pump flanges during expressing sessions.
Material selection was equally intentional. While many thermal packs utilise synthetic plush, polyester or microfibre covers, ours are paired with ultra-soft GOTS and OEKO-TEX® certified bamboo-cotton covers chosen specifically for prolonged skin contact during breastfeeding. We believe the materials touching a mother's skin should be considered with the same care as the therapy itself.
Every element has been designed around the realities of breastfeeding, creating a thermal therapy system that supports comfort, feeding, expressing and evidence-informed breast care without the compromises commonly accepted within traditional designs.
How To Use
Cold Therapy
Place the Thermal Therapy Packs in the freezer for a minimum of 30 minutes, or until chilled.
Apply to the breasts for 10–20 minutes as required, up to every 2–3 hours. Cold therapy is often used after feeding or pumping, and is commonly incorporated into contemporary lactation care to help support breast comfort during periods of engorgement, inflammatory breast symptoms, tenderness and swelling.
Always remove the packs if they become uncomfortable or excessively cold. Remove before breastfeeding and allow the skin to return to a comfortable temperature.
Warm Therapy
Lay the compress flat on a clean, microwave-safe plate.
Heat at 700W for 16 seconds, then allow to stand for 30 seconds before applying. If additional warmth is required, continue heating in 5-second increments until the desired temperature is reached.
Do not exceed 20 seconds total heating time.
Gentle warmth is best used immediately prior to breastfeeding, expressing or breast massage. Many mothers find warmth helpful before feeding or pumping as part of a breast care routine designed to support comfort, circulation and milk flow.
Always test temperature before applying to the skin. Remove before breastfeeding and ensure the skin has returned to a comfortable temperature.
Microwave Heating Guide
For best results, always begin with the lowest recommended heating time.
• 700W – 16 seconds
• 1000W – 13 seconds
• 1250W – 10 seconds
Microwave wattage and power levels may vary. Adjust heating times cautiously and always test the temperature before use.

ABM CLINICAL PROTOCOL #36: THE MASTITIS SPECTRUM (REVISED 2022)
Cold or Warm Therapy?
ABM’s latest guidance positions cold therapy as first-line support for breast inflammation—helping mothers to reduce swelling, tenderness, and pain from engorgement, early inflammatory mastitis, and ductal narrowing (often called blocked ducts).
COLD THERAPY
Use cold therapy after breastfeeding or pumping to reduce swelling and soothe tenderness—especially through periods of oversupply, weaning, or return-to-work pumping. It’s a simple, evidence-based way to feel better, relieve pain and reduce inflammation while protecting your supply.
WARM THERAPY
A little warmth just before a feed or pump can soften the breast and encourage let-down for a smoother latch or more comfortable pumping session. Keep the application of heat short and purposeful. During active breast inflammation, prolonged warmth is not recommended.
LOVED BY MUMS

“”The thoughtful design, particularly the large central opening, makes the Mammae design exceptionally comfortable to wear during pumping. The dual hot and cold function allows me to recommend them for a wide range of concerns, from engorgement and mastitis to supporting let-down and milk flow. The OEKO-TEX® certified bamboo covers are luxuriously soft and breathable.
“”This thoughtful design gave relief exactly where I needed it and the large nipple opening fit perfectly around my Haakaa breast pump. The bamboo terry overs (WOW), they feel so soft and luxurious. I cant believe I was using stinky cabbage leaves before this product came along. As always, you've saved the day once again.
“”When I started to feel my breasts becoming engorged around day 5, I used these hot and cold packs. The cold temperature is what gave me instant relief between feeds. Just 30 mins in the freezer was ample time to cool them down. They were so easy and comfortable to wear inside my bra. I also love the smaller connection point that sits at the bottom of the pack. I can see how other thermal packs are quite bulky and uncomfortable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does hot and cold therapy matter for breastfeeding and breast care?
Dual thermal therapy offers effective support for common breast changes in pregnancy and postpartum. For acute inflammation; engorgement, ductal narrowing (blocked ducts), inflammatory mastitis, cold therapy helps to reduce swelling and tenderness. Warm therapy may assist let-down immediately before feeding or pumping. Current clinical guidance prioritises cold therapy during inflammatory episodes and cautions against sustained heat on inflamed breast tissue.
How do I use Mammae's hot & cold thermal therapy breast packs?
Use warm therapy before breastfeeding or pumping to support milk flow and comfort. Use cold therapy after feeds or between feeds to soothe breast pain, reduce inflammation and engorgement.
How do I heat my breast pack safely?
Follow the heating time instructions according to the WATTS of your microwave. This information is outlined inside your Care Card. Place the pack flat in a clean microwave; heat in short 5 minute bursts and test on your inner wrist before use. Do not overheat or use an oven.
How do I cool my thermal therapy breast pack effectively?
Chill in the freezer for a minimum 30 minutes on a clean surface then insert into the bamboo cover prior to application. Apply in short sessions, with regular skin checks. Cold therapy is preferred for acute inflammatory breast pain and engorgement.
Can I use the hot and cold thermal therapy breast packs with a breast pump?
Yes, the large 6cm opening is thoughtfully designed to fit around all universal electric or manual breast pump flanges. They can make pumping more comfortable and efficient. Try a brief pre-pump warm-up (gel pack in the bamboo cover, placed around the breast or over the outside of the flange. This can help let-down and softening. After expressing, switch to a cold therapy pack for 10–15 minutes to calm post-pump swelling and tenderness.
Do I have to use the bamboo cover?
Yes, it is best practice to use the included GOTS & OEKO-TEX certified bamboo terry cover, however it also comes down to personal preference and temperature guidelines. The ultra-soft and certified bamboo material protects delicate postpartum skin from direct heat or cold, improves comfort, and keeps the packs hygienic. (Our covers are known to be buttery-soft and easy to wash.)
How do I clean the gel packs?
Spot-clean only. Wipe the outside surface with a soft cloth and mild soap, then air-dry fully. Do not machine-wash or tumble-dry.
How do I wash the bamboo covers?
Delicate machine-wash. Cold, gentle cycle, with mild fragrance-free detergent. Avoid bleach or fabric softeners. Line-dry flat or tumble-dry low.
How long should I apply the hot or cold?
Short sessions work best—around 10–15 minutes with regular skin checks. Reapply cooling as needed. Always use the cover to mitigate sensitivity or burns and stop if skin feels too hot, too cold, numb, or uncomfortable. Avoid prolonged heat therapy on inflamed tissue.(ABA Guidelines.)
Can thermal therapy help with mastitis or “blocked ducts” (ductal narrowing)?
Yes, with current updates from ABM (2022). For inflamed tissue, prioritise cooling. Avoid deep massage and avoid “emptying” the breast; instead, feed/pump to comfort on your normal schedule. Brief warmth pre-feed is fine if it helps let-down. Seek medical review if fever or systemic symptoms persist >24 hours.(ABM Protocol; bfmed.org.)
Is hot and cold thermal therapy safe in pregnancy and postpartum?
Yes, when used as directed. Avoid extreme temperatures, direct skin contact, and use on broken skin. If you have reduced skin sensation, dermatologic conditions, or a history of vasospasm, take extra care and follow your clinician’s advice.(NICE & ABM aligned.)
When shouldn’t I use hot & cold thermal therapy packs?
Do not use on numb areas, open wounds, or active skin infections, or if the pack feels overheated/too cold to tolerate.

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I certified
What touches your skin matters.
Many breast compresses are housed in synthetic microfibre covers. We chose OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Class I certified organic bamboo terry instead — the highest global textile safety classification, tested to the standard required for infant skin.
Soft against tender breasts. Thoughtfully selected for the earliest days of motherhood.
Organic Bamboo Terry. OEKO-TEX® Class I Certified. No Compromise.
Designed Around Your Anatomy
Relief Where You Need It. Protection Where You Don't.
During breastfeeding, the nipple is often the most sensitive part of the breast.
Many standard hot and cold compresses allow temperature to sit directly against already tender, damaged or overstimulated nipple tissue, creating discomfort when relief is what mothers are seeking.
Mammae's signature 6cm keyhole opening keeps temperature focused around the breast tissue while helping avoid direct thermal contact with the nipple itself.
Because when your nipples need recovery, they deserve protection too.
One Size. Full Coverage
Designed For The Full Reality Of Breast Inflammation
Current breastfeeding research has transformed our understanding of breast inflammation.
Engorgement, inflammatory mastitis and ductal narrowing often involve larger regions of breast tissue than many mothers realise.
Rather than designing around a generic circular mould, we created an extra-large anatomical format that delivers thermal support across the broader areas commonly affected during lactation.
A more considered design for the realities of breastfeeding and pumping.
How To Prepare
Heat Microwave Application
Lay the compress flat on a clean, microwave-safe plate. Heat on medium power (700W) for 16 seconds, then allow to stand for 30 seconds before applying. If additional warmth is needed, continue in 5-second intervals until desired temperature is achieved. Do not exceed 30 seconds total heating time. Microwave wattage and power levels may vary. Use immediately prior to feeding or pumping to help soften the breast and support milk flow.
Cold Freezer Application
Place in freezer for a minimum of 2 hours prior to use.Apply to the breast for 10–20 minutes, up to every 2–3 hours, or as needed.Use after breastfeeding or pumping, or between feeds, to help reduce swelling, ease tenderness, and relieve discomfort associated with engorgement or mastitis symptoms.Always remove if the compress becomes uncomfortable or overly cold.Remove before breastfeeding and ensure the skin has returned to a safe, comfortable temperature.
Ice Water Immersion
Submerge the compress in a bowl of ice water for 10–15 minutes as an alternative to freezer cooling. Ensure it feels chilled to the touch before applying. Use after feeding or pumping to soothe inflammation, reduce swelling, and ease discomfort. This method is especially helpful when travelling or without access to a freezer. Always use with the bamboo cover and remove if the compress becomes uncomfortably cold. Allow the skin to return to a safe temperature before the next feed.
